ANDOVER'S Young Firefight-ers (YFA) will no longer be left out in the cold thanks to the purchase of winter jackets and kit bags by East Portway company Papst plc.

The town's branch of the Young Firefighters Assoc-iation has gone from strength to strength since its formation in 1998, with 12 new recruits joining seven established members at the beginning of September.

Members of the local fire crew give up their own time to run the weekly sessions and the group is self-financing.

The addition of jacketsto the YFA's kit makes the full range of outdoor activities possible all year round.

In thanking Papst for their generosity and interest, Andover Station Officer Robin Furniss said the support of a well-known Andover company was a tremendous boost for the young people involved.

"YFA is all about giving young people confidence and the opportunity to develop new skills, as well as a real taste of what firefighting is all about," he said.
