THOUSANDS of visually- impaired people across Hampshire will be receiving festive tidings in a Christmas card designed by a Fareham schoolgirl.

The design by Emily Peachy, a pupil at Uplands Junior School in Fareham, was chosen from more than 200 entries to be made into Christmas cards for the Hampshire Association for the Care of the Blind.

Eight-year-old Emily's drawing of a smiley snowman was picked as the winning design in the charity's annual competition organised through schools across Hampshire.

Pupils were told to go for something simple as many people who are registered blind have got some usable sight that can make out bold images.

Jennie Robinson from HACB said: "The idea for Emily's card is very simple. I liked the cheeky smile on the snowman's face and will be sending it to hundreds of members in my area."

Runner-up was Daniel Cook of Uplands Junior School.

Emily was shown the card by the town's mayor, Pam Bryant.
