OWNERS of the Latin American restaurant Las Iguanas are searching for new locations in Southampton as part of a major investment programme over the next three years.

Las Iguanas has received £3.9m investment from Piper Private Equity and the Royal Bank of Scotland to fund its expansion plans around the country with 20 new restaurants in view. The company says it is looking for good restaurant and bar circuit sites of about 3,500 to 5,000 sq ft around the UK and is starting its trawl of Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth along with places like Manchester, Derby, Chester, Nottingham, Cheltenham, Reading, Oxford and Cambridge.

It has already completed its first deal on a property in Leicester with plans for the restaurant to open early next year.

Metrodiner company director Ajith Jaya-Wickrema said: "We have developed a unique South American atmosphere in our existing restaurants in Bristol, Bath, Birmingham and Cardiff.

"This has resulted in a strong and successful business base from which to expand further. We need to take significant steps to grow the business. However, first of all we need to find the right locations that offer us real potential.''
