James Humby has had an up-and-down time since he won the British under-15 speedway championship.
Within days of his title success, the youngster from Romsey fell heavily at Poole and suffered injuries which kept him out of the saddle until last week.
But, with his nerves intact, Humby made a triumphant comeback in the Keith Walker Memorial Cup meeting at Lydd where he won in great style with a 15-point maximum.
Humby had to negotiate four qualifying heats, a semi-final and final in tricky conditions, with the wet weather producing slippery track conditions.
It was the final competitive meeting of the season at Lydd and the racing was fast and close with a number of spectacular spills thrown in for good measure, but Humby stayed upright to beat Gary Cottham and Lee Strudwick.
It was hoped that Keith Walker's grandson James Walker would show well in the final results but his day was dashed with a seized engine in the preliminary rounds.
Keith, who with his wife Pat was a popular and well known character among the Southern Junior Speedway riders, died just over a year ago after a short illness.
