Intamet has picked Segensworth's brand new io centre as the site for a new UK distribution centre.

The international stockholders and distributors of stainless steel, tubes, pipes, fittings and flanges are the first occupiers on site to begin their fit out at the new hi-tech scheme, which is set for completion in January 2003.

The io centre is the first development in Segensworth to offer units on a virtual freehold basis for some ten years, which fitted right in with Intamet's plans to purchase rather than lease industrial premises. The io centre's unique approach to sales and lettings means that occupiers can choose a rental or purchase option to suit their business plan, rather than being tied into long institutional leases.

Units are available to purchase, to rent with an option to purchase, or on lease lengths from three years and upwards.

Moving their operation to the io centre from Eastleigh in early 2003 will herald a new era of growth for Intamet. The new premises offer them double their existing warehouse space, enabling increased stocks and opportunities for employment growth.

Intamet's director Gordon Rowe explained what else made the io centre their prime choice: "The prerequisites for Intamet's new UK distribution centre included exceptional access, high quality build specification and presence, in order to expand and grow the business. Location was also a key issue, with high importance in retaining and motivating existing employees and attracting new ones in the future.

"The io centre was identified early on as a potential good long-term investment.

"With its high build specification, ultra-modern design and meeting of the latest stringent environmental regulations, other potential options soon fell out of the equation. This coupled with its prime industrial location and superb access to Junction 9 of the M27 made our decision clear."

Rory Finnan, head of marketing, sales and lettings for io centres said: "I am delighted to be able to welcome Intamet as the io centre's first occupier. With completion of the scheme some three months off I am pleased to be able to report strong interest in several other units and look forward to announcing more deals in the near future."

The 104,750 sq ft (9,732 sq m) scheme offers 14 units in total, ranging in size from 2,750 sq ft (255 sq m) to 31,950 sq ft (2,968 sq m). Joint letting agents are Hellier Langston and Young and Butt.
