Ann Elkins is living proof that for a golfer life can begin at 60!

The Lee-on-the-Solent member is jetting off to South Africa to play in the finals of the Ladies National Amateur Tournament - yet in golfing terms she's just a beginner.

When she retired from a lifetime of work, Ann got down to some serious golf and her trip to the Wild Coast Sun Resort caps a fabulous season.

It began in July when she qualified from her club with a nett 66 for the divisional finals at Denham GC in Buckinghamshire.

Ann then scored another nett 66 to qualify for the grand finals in South Africa which are over 36 holes.

She has earned herself a five-night, all expenses paid trip to the Wild Coast Resort.

Four ladies from the Gosport & Stokes Bay club have won the National Nines Knockout Trophy.

The tournament, sponsored by Stylo Golf in conjunction with Braderson Golf Managament, is in its third year, and is open to all nine-hole courses in Britain.

The Gosport girls beat teams from Alton, Gloucester and Epping Forest to go through to the final at Les Ormes in Jersey where Ann Fulton, Julia Fairhall, Frankie Casserly and Judy Dawe beat off challenges from Holtye GC in East Grinstead then Storws Wen of Anglesey to clinch the national trophy.

Corhampton have won the County Stoneham Cup for the first time in their history. They cruised to a 5-0 semi-final victory over Hockley but Royal Winchester, who scraped home 4-3 against Alresford, gave them a tough ride in the final.

The Corhampton team got home 4-2 but the matches were close with two finishing at the 18th and one going down the 19th.

Match details (Corhampton names first): A Silk beat P Davis 5 & 4, L Borrow beat E Eatwell 3 & 2, L Butler beat L Wehbeh at the 19th, L Dominy lost to A McDermott 1 up, C Jones lost to I Hamilton 1 up, G McMiulklan halved with S St Leger.

Hockley, who have again qualified for the Mail on Sunday Club Championship at Myrtle Beach, already have a trophy in the cabinet after beating Corhampton in the final of the North Hants Trophy.

There were 26 clubs in this prestigious competition played off scratch and it was Hockley's tenth win in 16 years. Hockley beat Hartley Wintney 2-1 in the semi-finals with Corhampton getting home by the same margin against Meon Valley.

Then in the final Corhampton won two matches with the third unfinished.

Curtis Cup player Kerry Smith set a new Petersfield course record of 70 on her way to victory in the county autumn meeting. Waterlooville-based Kerry had a combined total of 146.
