Eighth seed Sofia Arvidsson emerged victorious in the LTA Ladies $25,000 event in Southampton in a see-saw encounter.
The Swede overcame Olga Barabanschikova in three sets, despite crumbling in the second by a 6-1 margin. Arvidsson, 18, held her nerve against her Belarussian opponent to take the match 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
Arvidsson had started the match in confident fashion breaking Barabanschikova's service in the first game.
Barabanschikova then collected herself to draw level at 2-2, but allowed unforced errors to creep into her game.
Arvidsson took advantage of this by maintaining a disciplined, cautious approach, breaking serve twice more to take the first set 6-2.
The second set was a different story as Barabanschikova stunned her opponent with an impressive array of shots.
Arvidsson remained defiant as the match entered the third set, breaking her opponent at the first opportunity to take a 3-0 lead.
This brought out the best of Barabanschikova who excited the crowd with a range of volleys, lobs and smashes to claw it back to 3-2.
Arvidsson rode the storm and looked to be coasting at 5-2.
However, the gritty Belarussian fought back from match point down to break her opponent and make the score 5-4.
But Barabanschikova's inconsistencies caught up with her as she double-faulted on match point to award Arvidsson the title.
The young Swede was clearly delighted with her victory and paid tribute to the tournament organisers.
"I really enjoyed playing here, tournaments are always well organised in England," she said.
"It was a very up and down game. I knew before that she plays a lot of funny shots so I had to be patient and focused.
"I played too defensive in the second set so I had to come out and attack and that seemed to work."
