Lethal Linnet Leigh Phillips plundered yet another hat-trick as Lymington & New Milton powered into today's second round FA Vase draw at the expense of Walton Casuals.

Phillips's treble-shooting exploits hoisted his season's personal goal tally to a staggering 20 and helped ease the Linnets to a comfortable 5-2 victory over the Combined Counties League outfit at Fawcett Fields.

Linnets manager Graham Kemp said: "In cup games you just want to get through but today we have played very well as well and we could have scored even more goals. Leigh is certainly firing on all cylinders at the moment."

Matty Town opened the scoring for Lymington and the first of Phillips' goals arrived before half-time when a powerful surging run and cross by Nick Miles saw the striker dive full length to open his account.

Another left-wing cross, this time by Liam Green, presented Phillips with a side-footed finish before Walton Casuals reduced the arrears through Mark Hunter.

Lymington & NM restored their three-goal advantage straight from the restart when Green's cross was only cleared to the edge of the penalty area and Kevin Gill returned it with interest.

And, when Anthony Tilley's corner kick wasn't cleared properly, Phillips pounced to complete his hat-trick - his ninth goal in just two Vase ties this season - before Dave D'Rozario grabbed Casuals a late reply.

There was also a convincing 4-0 win for the Linnets' arch rivals Wimborne Town - the 1992 winners turning over Western League opponents Minehead at the Cuthbury.

Magpies' Stuart Cannie marked his return from a 42-day suspension by opening the scoring from a one-on-one with the 'keeper and it was 2-0 before the break when a glorious 60-yard ball by Darren Powell released debutant Gareth Barnes who coolly lobbed the 'keeper.

Two more goals in the last ten minutes sealed matters with Paul Honeybun rifling in an unstoppable shot before Guy Dipper's cross was side-footed home by Aaron Turner.

Wimborne manager Paul Arnold said: "It was pretty comfortable and I thought that we were well in control throughout the match. I'm very pleased and it's nice to be in the next round."

JWL leaders AFC Newbury went tumbling out 3-1 to rivals Andover in one of two all-Wessex ties. Yashwa Romeo put the Berkshire club ahead on 14 minutes but two Justin Bennett strikes before the break turned the tie on its head.

Neil Butler completed a surprise 3-1 win for the Lions and manager Howard Goddard couldn't conceal his delight: "We beat Christchurch on Tuesday night and have followed it up today with another tremendous result. It's great to beat any team who are top of the table.

"The players' attitude and commitment was tremendous and don't forget that we were without our captain, Glen Damen, and Vince Rusher today.

Moneyfields came out on top in the other Wessex clash at Thatcham, leaving Town manager Neil Baker an unhappy bunny.

"We are creating chances for fun at the moment and someone is going to get hammered soon but defensively we are shocking. It's especially disappointing to go out so early in the Vase and we've now leaked ten goals in our last three matches," groaned Baker.

Efforts from Ashley Perry and Sean Cook - his fifth in three games - twice put Thatcham ahead only for the Moneymen to hit back through Wayne Eastman and Lee Mould with Eastman lashing home the decider on 67 minutes.

Cowes Sports overcame a half-time deficit to triumph 2-1 over Greenwich Borough at Westwood Park to avenge last season's FA Cup exit at the hands of the Kent League outfit.

Mark Burrows equalised for the Yachtsmen with a 70th-minute penalty after Phil McDonald had been brought down in the area before substitute Ollie Buckett saw his low drive parried by the 'keeper but the ball sat up nicely for fellow sub Adam Johnson to head in.

"We played them off the park in the second half and it could have easily have been 4-1," beamed Cowes boss Derek Ohren.

Christchurch were another side who staged a second-half recovery to book their place in this morning's draw with a 4-2 scoreline after they finally saw off the challenge of Hellenic League Tuffley Rovers.

A scrambled goal by Dominic Taylor put the Priory men ahead after 20 minutes but some poor defending led to them going in 2-1 down at the interval.

The tie turned on the hour mark when Lee Manning was brought down in the box and Duncan Wells converted the resultant spot-kick to make it 2-2.

Manning and Taylor combined to set up Paul Rideout for their third and Taylor's through ball found Manning for number four.

Co-manager Nigel Cripps said: "Our young lads don't seem to believe in themselves until we score a goal.

"It's strange, as they are chirpy in the dressing room yet it seems to change as soon as they cross that white line.

"But I'm pleased overall and it's nice to be in the draw for the next round."

Neighbours Bournemouth Poppies clocked up an impressive victory at previously undefeated Clevedon United from the Somerset League.

A long clearance upfield by 'keeper Nick Stone was flicked on by Steve Bly for Jay Rose to put Poppies ahead after 12 minutes.

Although Danny White levelled for the home side, James Antell rifled home the winner from the edge of the penalty area just five minutes after coming on as a substitute.
