New Forest Runners' Lee Rodriguez continued where he left off last season by scoring a first-day victory in the Leisure Pursuits Hampshire Cross-Country League at Winchester's Farley Mount.

The reigning league champion completed three laps of the hilly course in a winning time of 28 minutes and 46 seconds.

As an extra feather in his cap, it was the

first time Rodriguez had ever beaten

Team Solent's track and cross-country international Angus Maclean, who

finished 47 seconds adrift.

"It's nice to reverse the tables," smiled Rodriguez. "I caught Angus at the top of the hill - and then there were four of us. I kept plugging away in front and one by one they dropped off."

For the women, Isle of Wight glamour twins Bryony and Kathryn Frost turned in their best runs in the league to dominate the under-20 age group and press for senior honours.

Pride of place again went to Basingstoke & Mid-Hants' Amanda Proctor, who clocked her third league victory in a row in 17.32.

The next fixture is hosted by Chichester AC at Goodwood Race Course on Saturday, November 2.
