GENUINE timeless classics songs are few and far between - but Steve Harley is the proud author of at least one.
The singer made his name with his band Cockney Rebel at the tail-end of the glam era in the 1970s, scoring top ten hits with Judy Teen and Mr Soft. But it was Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me) that really secured Harley's place in music history.
It's probably fair to say that without that song, which hit the top-spot in 1975, Harley probably wouldn't be touring today. It'll certainly get a warm response when he sings it - as he almost certainly will - during his live set at The Brook.
These days the veteran rocker is as busy as ever, presenting his own show on Radio Two as well as writing and recording a new album, provisionally titled The Last Supper.
The Brook, Southampton, October 20. Tickets: £14.50. Box office: 023 8055 5366.
