A SOUTHAMPTON nightspot is pledging to do what it can to ensure clubbers get home safely in the early hours.
Bosses at Magnum in St Mary's Road are backing the Daily Echo campaign by putting advice posters up throughout the nightclub.
The safety blitz has been launched in conjunction with Hampshire police to cut the number of attacks across the county.
It was piloted in the Fareham area, where seven women fell victim to a serial sex attacker in just five weeks, and has now been extended across Hampshire.
Magnum general manager David Moss said he was delighted to support the Be Safe, Be Sensible campaign.
"The main reason we are backing it is that I do know of a few customers who have been involved in problems when they are walking home from the club, which is obviously very frightening for them.
"We already help as far as we can, by taking people to their cars or taxis and ordering cabs for people so they can get home.
"I think this campaign is a great idea as it will help make people more aware, he added."
The project already has the backing of Home Office minister and Southampton Itchen MP John Denham, city cabbies, First bus company and Southampton Institute.
It urges women:
Don't walk home alone.
Be picked up by a friend or trusted taxi.
Stick to well-lit main roads.
Carry a personal alarm.
Don't ignore your instincts.
Mr Moss continued: "We are pleased to do anything we can to help and I hope people will take notice of it."
