PROPOSALS aimed at solving traffic worries at a busy Chandler's Ford shopping centre are to go on public display next Tuesday.

An exhibition at the Methodist Church's Dovetail Centre in Winchester Road will focus on traffic issues in the Fryern area.

Traffic was one of the major concerns of residents who fought a long-running but unsuccessful battle to scupper plans to build a Waitrose supermarket at Fryern.

With the new store nearing completion, local people will now get the chance to see and comment on traffic schemes that have been drawn up with the help of local groups and residents, including schools.

Displays of the proposals will be on show and staff from both Eastleigh Borough Council Hampshire County Council will also be on hand.

A Borough Council spokesman said proposals would help reduce traffic speeds and deter the development of 'rat-runs.'

Features include the construction of "build-outs" along Oakmount Road and "gateways" at the entrances to some residential roads off Oakmount Road and Winchester Road.

Comments and views expressed at the exhibition, which takes place between 2pm and 8pm, will be reported to the next meeting of Eastleigh council's Chandler's Ford and Hiltingbury local area committee which will then recommend a suitable plan of action to the county council.

Local area committee chairman Councillor Godfrey Olson said: "With new Waitrose store nearing completion it is important that people have their say about the traffic plans that are being suggested.

"This is an ideal opportunity for them to view the proposals and speak to staff who have developed them."
