IT'S not often that culinary flair and expertise is repeated in a family, but for mother and son, Janet and Stuart Wahnon, their cake icing skills are so great they've earned silver and gold prizes at a recent competition.
The pair, who both work in the catering department at Andover War Memorial Hospital, entered into The Salon Culinaire competition, which is open to all hospitals who are part of the Wessex Branch Hospitals Catering Association.
Mum Janet made and iced a girls' Christening cake, while 23-year-old Stuart opted for a wedding cake.
"I came second in the same category last year, so I'm really proud to have picked up the gold this time round," said Stuart who lives in Highlands Road in Andover.
For Stuart and Janet, who each gave more than 40 hours of dedicated time to their creations, it's work as usual until the next time such skills are required.
"I've been icing cakes for nine years and absolutely love it, but I don't advertise my work, preferring to rely on recommendations and word of mouth," said Janet.
There were four entrants from Andover hospital in various categories, including catering manager Marc Phillips who was awarded a merit for his entry in the vegetarian tureen class.
