OVERTON Parish Council is to call on Hampshire Constabulary to pay for CCTV in the village centre from the sale of the defunct police house.
Village bobby Pc Paul Green, who used to be based in Overton but now operates out of Whitchurch, asked the council to look again at CCTV to help combat crime. He said there had been a number of incidents in the village involving attacks on businesses in recent months and a number of public order situations - although nothing major.
"CCTV might have prevented these from happening or at least given us more of a chance to detect them," he said.
But Cllr Graham Hensman wondered whether the incidents would have happened had the police station still been there.
"We have been pushed down this route by Hampshire Constabulary and I would like to see the CCTV paid for from the proceeds of the sale of the police house," he said.
Pc Green said the sale of police property usually went into the central fund, although it was possible the constabulary might contribute. The council agreed to contact the police and the borough and county councils for financial help.
