A MUM was indecently assaulted as she walked through a Southampton underpass with her two young children.

The 35-year-old had her six-year-old son with her and was pushing her three-year-old daughter when she was attacked in a city centre subway.

Today police were examining CCTV footage from the scene of the assault in an underpass between Andrews Park and the Charlotte Place car park.

Police said the victim had been approached from behind as she headed home with her children after an afternoon shopping. The man indecently assaulted her as he passed before walking off towards St Andrew's Road. Police said the woman had raised the alarm after she left the subway. Although not injured, she was left badly shaken. The attack happened around 5.15pm on Sunday but details were not disclosed by police until yesterday in the hunt for potential witnesses.

Police said the attacker was white, 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in, with a slim/wiry build, sallow complexion and was clean shaven with very dark brown eyes.

He wore a dark blue woolly hat, worn pulled down over his ears and possibly eyebrows, a dark blue waist-length waterproof jacket, and carried a blue rucksack worn over both shoulders, with a brand label near the zip. PC Kerry Loveless, of Southampton Central police, said: "We have seized CCTV footage from the area and are in the process of examining that.

"It was a very wet and gloomy Sunday afternoon, and we urge anybody who was in the area and who thinks they saw this man to please call us."
