RAT pack legend Sammy Davis Jnr is the inspiration behind a new play coming to the Theatre Royal Winchester.
Sammy, produced by Tiata Fahodzi in association with The Sammy David Jnr Foundation New York, features original tap dance routines set to some of the classic hits of the legendary Hollywood singer and actor.
The story revolves around ten hopeful auditionees, desperate to get a part in a new West End musical based on the life of Sammy Davis Jnr. Through their eyes the audience gradually builds up a picture of the multi-talented entertainer who, despite having the "wrong looks, height, face and race", made it to the top in showbiz.
The show also draws parallels between the life of the star and those of a young Asian man and his six flatmates, also hoping for a part in the play.
Sammy calls at the Theatre Royal Winchester from Thursday, October 31 to Saturday, November 2 as part of a UK tour before beginning an extended run in London next month.
Performances are at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. For tickets and information about this and other productions at the call the box office on 01962 840440.
