A 1930 Cole Porter musical with the polished wit of PG Wodehouse and co-writers makes this a show to brighten any dark evening. Strongly directed by Chris Brookes, the cast acts out the fast-moving shipboard comedy.
The irrepressible Billy Crocker is brilliantly played by Simon Pontin. He teams up with gangster Moonface Martin, superbly created by Malcolm Clarke, who as the 13th Most Wanted Man is a major on-board attraction.
You're the Tops, performed by Billy and Reno (Maria Newton), Friendship by Moonface and Reno, and Moonface's Blue Bird all had the audience chortling in their seats. The versatile set adds to the hilarity, especially with the back-to-back cabins and the scenes in the brig.
Changes were made scene by scene as, due to a throat infection, Mary-Rose Finden played Hope as a non-singing role.
The support of cast and band made the editing seamless. Prepare to laugh all evening. Runs until October 19.
