LEARNING was definitely a family affair across Eastleigh over the weekend.

Parents and children were encouraged to play the generation game in a variety of events as part of the National Family Learning Weekend campaign.

Activities ranged from pond dipping to a workshop where people could read stories to their grandchildren.

It was aimed at encouraging people to have fun by learning in a family unit.

Eastleigh council and independent training company IBP Training and Employment joined forces to put together an action-packed programme of events.

Activities were focused around three main themes - storytelling, healthy living and the environment.

Fleming Park Leisure Centre staged teen workout sessions free of charge to children aged 12 and over and their parents, while Eastleigh College put on a range of workshops including storytelling, being creative on a computer, designing, making and creating with various materials and cooking together.

Eastleigh Museum ran a treasure hunt with an autumn theme and West End's Itchen Valley Country Park provided pond-dipping sessions.

Young visitors to the Beatrice Royal Contemporary Art Gallery in Nightingale Avenue were able to experience an animal-inspired day dubbed Art Is A Hoot.

Birds from the New Forest Owl Sanctuary swooped on the gallery and children were able to draw pictures of them.
