Both the 'A' and 'B' teams of Fareham Nomads were in action in the first round of the Speedo League - the premier competition for most swimming clubs in England.

The 'A' team, newly promoted to the Premier Division, had a difficult gala against Beckenham, Brighton, Wycombe, Rushmoor and Winchester.

As for the past few years, it was the boys 15 and under section that were the dominant force for the Nomads, claiming 33 points from a possible 36.

Peter Hall won the 100m

backstroke and freestyle while Nick Barber easily won the 100m butterfly in a personal best time of 1.01.94. Graham Holland was third in the 100m breaststroke.

They also dominated the two relays, winning by two seconds in both.

Fareham's younger swimmers

(11 & under girls and boys) showed promise with Hannah Teasdale and Elizabeth Freemantle particularly impressive.

The veteran of the team,

32-year-old Jo Corben, displayed her talent with a fine second place in the ladies backstroke in 1.07.54.

Dan Leppard continued his improvement with a second place in the 11/U 50m freestyle in 32.75.
