SOUTHAMPTON Saints overcame atrociously wet conditions to score a 2-1 revenge victory over Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday in the FA Women's Premier League National Division.
Having fallen behind following a misplaced pass from the hard-working Marie O'Brien, Saints retaliated with two quick goals before half-time from 16-year-old Gemma Woodford and 17-year-old Lyndsey Roe.
It was the shock of losing 3-1 to Brighton at Winchester earlier in the season that has provided the springboard for some much-improved displays and manager Steve Stone said: "That's three good performances on the trot from our girls. It was a cracking match played in horrendous conditions, but after the first ten or 15 minutes we took control."
It was a farewell game for Saints' summer signing Jess Wright. The former England under-19 central defender and skipper is following in the footsteps of former Southampton players Una Nwajei and Rachel McArthur by joining professional side Fulham.
