Winchester City boss John Robson watched his side maintain their 100 per cent record with a 6-0 win over Petersfield and then said: "We can play better than that."
Two-goal Andy Forbes took his tally for the season to 18, opening the scoring with the first of three goals in as many minutes midway through the first half.
Forbes wrapped up the scoring five minutes from time after Lloyd Webber, Paul Nelson, captain Danny Smith and Gary Green had all got on the scoresheet.
But Robson, who played new boy Steve Beeks as a sweeper, said: "It might sound a strange thing for a manager to say after winning 6-0 but we weren't at our best today.
"There were ten and 15-minute spells where we didn't have enough of the ball. We've played superbly at times this season but, in the last few games, we've been a little under par.
"It's not through lack of hard work but it's a slight worry because we've got a big game coming up on Saturday against Cray Wanderers in the first round of the FA Vase."
Hugh Lewis dashed back from his new coaching brief with the AFC Bournemouth's academy sides to give his East Cowes Vics team a pep talk before Saturday's big Premier Division game at Poole.
And it worked well with Vics triumphing 3-0 at Tatnum with first-half goals from Arnold (2) and Plenty. Poole fought back gamely and the Vics goal bore a charmed life.
Chris Reeves, the Poole chairman, said, "Poole played so well that the fans gave them a standing ovation when they came off."
Unfortunately for Vics, Lewis won't be able to give them his undivided attention as manager but he says: "I'll be there when I can. The match at Poole was just perfect for me to nip over from Bournemouth."
Hythe and Dibden picked up their first Premier Division win of the season in some style. The normally shot-shy Watersiders beat Stockbridge 5-2. But, after easing into a three-goal lead, they had a second-half wobble and allowed Stocks to get it back to 3-2.
Then Lee Conner took control to score twice and complete his hat-trick. Lee MacReacheron and an own goal completed the scoring.
"We beat Locks Heath 3-0 in the Hampshire Senior Cup last week and that gave us a confidence boost," said Hythe chairman Robbie Parsons.
Dave Diaper, the Vosper Thornycroft boss, gave his players "a blast" when they went into half-time hanging on to a 3-2 lead over Liss. They responded by scoring four more goals in the second half for a 7-3 victory.
There were doubles from Mickey Moffatt and Mike Spinner with support from Dean Byrne, Gary Male and Jason Hurst, who is just back from injury.
Locks Heath bounced back from their setback against Hythe with a 2-0 home victory over Lymington. Pete Lines scored his third goal since joining from Eastleigh and Marc Jones hit number two from 25 yards.
Hedge End player-manager Andy Indge took just 38 seconds to give his side the lead in their second division summit meeting with DC FC. It was the perfect tonic for the Hedge Enders who went on to win 4-1. James Hewitt (2) and Jason Burnett completed the scoring.
