"Help a child to grow" is the message promoted by the county council's adoption team in National Adoption Week, which runs from tomorrow (Saturday) October 12th.

To encourage prospective adopters to come forward, the message will be promoted across the county through signs on buses, radio interviews, fliers and poster displays.

Each year, around 50 children are adopted in Hampshire and the county adoption team says it is always in need of more adoptive parents.

Adoption team manager, Pauline Pearce, said: "We welcome enquiries from a wide range of people with a variety of ethnic, racial, religious backgrounds and living arrangements.

"We are particularly interested in hearing from people who could meet the needs of older children whose life experiences may mean they have demanding behaviour, as well as for children of all ages with special needs such as developmental delays or learning and/or physical disabilities.

"In addition we are looking for homes for groups of two, three or four brothers and sisters whom we would like to keep together."
