A HAMPSHIRE ceramics student has been mixing her artistic talent with her love of wildlife to produce an eye-catching piece.

Eastleigh College higher national certificate student Jenny Tamblyn has produced a wall plaque depicting some of the wildlife and plants found on Southampton Common.

She is now lending the piece to the Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre for them to display on their wall - with Cabinet member for lifelong learning and training Councillor Richard Harris accepting the plaque on their behalf.

The 50-year-old 3D art and design student has already been nominated for the City and Guilds medal for excellence in creative crafts and is hoping the plaque will go down a treat with visitors.

She said: "This has given me a chance to combine my love of wildlife and explore the properties of clay and other materials and techniques."

Hawthorns customer services manager, Hillary Bradley said: "It will be great to have the work on display. It reflects one of our aims which is to inform and educate people of all ages about the environment."
