A torn mainsail hampered Iain Percy and Stevie Mitchell at the Star European Championships at Genoa, Italy, this week, leaving them in 25th place overall.
The pair, who last month won the world title after less then a year of competing in the Star Class, took second place on Wednesday, finishing behind Max Treacy and Anthony Shanks of Ireland.
The Team GBR sailors were back up to speed with their repaired light weather mainsail and crossed the line just in front of Christian Rasmussen and Peter Oersted of Denmark.
Percy said: "We sailed a much better day today. We had the correct mainsail up for the conditions and we were back up to pace."
Scoring a fourth place, triple Olympian Mark Reynolds, sailing with Austin Sperry, moved to the top of the scoreboard but, as Americans, they are not eligible for a medal at the Europeans.
So Fredrik Loof/Andres Ekstrom of Sweden are still in top spot, despite scoring their worst result of the regatta, a 13th place. Racing concluded today.
