Eastleigh Citizens' Advice Bureau has appealed for more volunteers to cope with the demands of its growing caseload.

The bureau provides sound advice on a wide range of complex issues to more than 15,000 people a year in Eastleigh alone. And there is a desperate need for more volunteers.

The plea came as MP David Chidgey launched National Volunteers Week in the borough by awarding special certificates to CAB volunteers from Eastleigh, Hedge End and Netley Abbey.

The certificates are in recognition of the wonderful work by the dedicated volunteers and Eastleigh bureau's deputy manager Ros Nell said: "Without them there would be no Citizens' Advice Bureau.

"All our volunteers are here because they want to be and find the work hugely rewarding."

Mr Chidgey has backed a Commons move recognising the significant contribution volunteers make to the community.

He said: "I cannot praise too highly the work of Eastleigh's CAB service. Through their volunteers they provide sound advice on a wide range of complex issues to more than 15,000 people a year in Eastleigh alone.

"Every year across the country 4,000 new people are trained as CAB advisers, winning new skills and confidence.

"No special skills are needed as everyone is fully trained either as administrators or advisers by the CAB service.

"Working with the CAB is a marvellous opportunity to play an important part in your community and develop your personal skills as well.

"Eastleigh CAB will welcome applications from people who are good listeners and open minded."
