TIDWORTH'S Zouch Market has been described as being 'extremely run down' by Kennet planners.
When officials visited the area only three of the 11 units were occupied. The parade has come to the attention of planners because an application has been made to operate a taxi office from the rear of one of the shops.
Tidworth Parish Council has objected to the proposal because of inadequate parking and access facilities.
"The parish council also understands that the Ministry of Defence has an ambition to redevelop the whole site of Zouch Market in the near future and this would require all properties to be vacant," says the parish council in its comments.
Planning officers say there are no grounds on which permission can be refused but they recommend that it only be granted for two years so as not to prejudice any future redevelopment proposals.
