SOUTHAMPTON Jazz Club welcomes the Liane Carroll Trio on Tuesday June 11.
Jazz diva and pianist Liane makes a triumphant return to the John Arlott Bar on the Southampton University campus with Roger Carey on bass and Mark Fletcher on drums. Born in London, Liane started piano lessons at three, and began her professional career in the 1980s, writing, arranging, singing and playing for rock, blues, soul, pop, jazz and classical bands.
In 1988, she joined Trevor Watts' Moire Music and toured New Zealand, Australia, India, Canada, the USA and eastern Europe. In the 1990s, she worked with Gerry Rafferty, Long John Baldry, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and others, as well as singing and recording in Switzerland, the UK and the USA. She has been playing regularly at Ronnie Scott's Club since 1993, making two albums, Dollybird and the recently released Son of Dollybird at the venue.
In addition to solo gigs, she also performs with guitarist-songwriter Peter Kirtley (formerly with Pentangle and Alan Price) and has recorded a CD, Bush Telegraph, with him and his band.
Combining standards with originals, classic pop and torch songs, Liane's great stage presence promises to make for one of the jazz club's gigs of the season.
Tickets are £8 for non-members and £6 for members. For more information, call Andy Iles on 023 8049 1954.
