COMMUNITY spirit surfaced in abundance in Stockbridge after a call went out for helpers to come to the aid of a run-down scout hut in the village.
"There was a fantastic response with more than 20 people coming to help," said guide district commissioner, Allison Long. "They did a really good job by clearing a lot of mess and managed to creosote the outside of the building.
"Hopefully these efforts will spur people on so that more get involved with scouts and guides."
The scout hut, at the rear of the Grosvenor Hotel car park, has been in use for many years but in recent times fewer people have come forward to act as leaders and the number of children has dwindled.
Currently only beavers and cubs meet there.
