HAVING had the occasional problem of many people thinking that the Southampton Philharmonic Society comprises a group of people sitting around a gramophone listening to Mario Lanza, the society decided it was time for a change.
The group is now calling itself the Southampton Philharmonic Choir, which in fact is what it is - a progressive mixed choir of about 150 voices singing from a huge range of choral music.
Fresh with its new name, the choir will be performing at The Mayflower, Southampton, on June 9, in aid of the Wessex Cancer Trust.
Carl Davis will be conducting the choir, along with the New London Sinfonia, as they perform Mozart's Requiem and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.
Tickets cost from £15. Contact 023 8071 1811.
