TAG rugby fever came to Overton along with Harlequins players James Hayter and Scott Beman recently to help more than 500 boys and girls kicks off the local Ford Tag Rugby Festival.
Andover's St John the Baptist School team maintained their proud tradition by adding another trophy to their growing collection by emerging as overall winners on the day and now go forward as Hampshire champions to the regional finals to be in Aldershot next month.
Ford Tag Rugby is part of a four-year-programme that provides resources to schools and directly involves more than 340,000 children around the country thanks to the innovative community partnership between the Ford Motor Company and the Rugby Football Union.
The local tournament, once again superbly organised by popular village policeman and former Overton RFC skipper Paul Green, is a way of introducing rugby into schools and involves youngsters from the ages of seven to 11.
Ford is contributing nearly a £1million during the course of the programme and each school taking part receives a free Ford Tag Rugby pack containing match balls, tag belts, bibs and a coaching video.
