CHILDREN are putting their lives in danger by playing on roads after being forced off an overgrown recreation ground in Bursledon.
Grass has grown to more than two feet high at the play park on the Pilands Wood estate, making a BMX track, a basketball court and a public footpath unusable.
Now youngsters have resorted to the streets of the estate and Bursledon parish councillor Rodney Cummins says it is an accident waiting to happen.
Mr Cummins said: "All of the children from the estate usually play here but you can't even kick a ball at the moment because the grass is so high.
"They are playing football and games in the highway now and I'm worried one of them might get hit by a car.
"The council just doesn't seem interested in this place. I can't remember the last time they cut the hedgerow either.
"I have put pressure on the council because so many residents have complained to me."
A spokesman for the council said: "Contractors have had a problem getting on to the site because it has been quite wet. They are now going on with flails to sort it out."
