ONYX is setting the standard for composting after its composting site at Fareham was officially declared one of the best in the entire country.
The Pro-Grow production facility is one of only six sites to be recognised by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (Wrap) as a Site of Best Practice. It was chosen for its excellence in the consistency and quality of the compost it produces and also for its commitment to attaining the high standards set by the UK Composting Association's Quality Assurance Scheme.
"We are delighted that Wrap has recognised Onyx's commitment to setting the highest standards in the production of recycled material," says Peter Mills, composting manager for Onyx. "Pro-Grow production has gone from strength to strength. Our organic status, coupled with this latest recognition of our excellence, demonstrates that recycling through composting can be both environmentally and economically profitable."
Wrap was created in the wake of the National Waste Strategy as a fundamental part of the government's plan to implement that strategy and achieve recycling targets. Wrap's role is to promote sustainable waste management and to create stable and efficient markets for recycled materials and products.
