SILVER eels and pouting completely dominated during the first heat of the Wessex Division of the National Federation of Sea Anglers Champion of Champions shore competition held at Eastney, where 12 anglers qualified for the semi-finals.
John Brown, representing Steamers-based SAC, was the top performer and the winner of B section with 277 points during the measure & return fixture.
Others to qualify from B section included Pete Hegg 251, Kevin Franks 241, Steve Cousins 157, Mike Teague 148 and Mike Channon 127. The winner of A section with 272 points was Danny Woodcock followed by Mark Barnett 240, Steve Harder 222, Justin Roulland 186, Lee Gatrell 169 and Andrew Hibbert 78 points.
Hengistbury Head was the setting for the second round of the four-a-side Neptune League, which saw 15 teams in action.
The Lymington team consisting of Mark Jones, Bran Dawkins, Malcolm Stote and Chris Clark won their second consecutive match with exactly 4lb, followed by Boscombe & Southbourne B (3lb 11oz) and Wessex Kestrels (3lb 8oz). Silver eels, flounders, pout, wrasse and a couple of smoothhound provided the limited action on a blustery night.
