Hill Head sailing Club topper open, which attracted 41 competitors, took place on 27th April in force five conditions.
A strong field competed with first place being taken by Steve Jackson of Hardway SC following close competition with Hill Head's Alain Sign.
Joe Crabb from Chew Valley SC came in third and did extremely well as his horse broke in the second beat of the first race. The first Hill Head boat (not in the first three) was awarded to Rob Clarke and first lady to Clare Whitehill of Papercourt SC.
A special prize was awarded to Joseph Wellerd of Crawley Mariners SC for persevering and completing the third race despite a broken tiller extension.
The conditions were challenging for topper sailors and the five safety boats on hand were kept busy throughout the day. Although the majority of competitors failed to complete all the races they all enjoyed the experience.
The eight competitors who completed all the races were able to show their determination and high level of sailing ability.
