A FOUR-under-par round of 68 saw Sandford Springs professional Jon Barnes (pictured right) take victory in the Barton-on-Sea pro-am, sponsored by the Fullers Group.
It was Barnes' second victory in three years in the tournament, which marked the start of the Hampshire PGA's 2002 season.
Barnes, a former junior member at Barton, made the most of perfect scoring conditions. Barton assistant David Ford (69) took second place but was left to rue an untidy finish to his round, which saw him drop shots at the 15th and 16th holes.
Kevin Saunders (Dibden) and Ceb Aby (Chilworth) shared third place on 70.
In the pro-am, Philip Bryden's team of Stuart Hopkins, Tim Thompson and Nick Boyes took advantage of the excellent condition of the Barton course to record an impressive 96 points. This gave them victory by seven points from Ceb Aby's team of Steve Davies, Alan Pollack and Nick Boyes.
Leading professional scores: Jon Barnes (Sandford Springs) 68, David Ford (Barton-on-Sea) 69, Ceb Aby (Chilworth) 70, Kevin Saunders (Dibden Golf Centre) 70, Steve Cowle (Blacknest) 70, John Hay (Waterlooville) 70, James Pitcher (Romsey) 71, Philip Bryden (Tournerbury) 71, Kevin Bowden (Swanmore Golf Centre) 71.
