DAVID BUTWELL, who doubles up between the Romsey and Lee-on-Solent Clubs, should be one of the front runners for the Hampshire Youths, Boys and Junior Championships at Petersfield on Sunday.
Butwell is one of three scratch players who will pose a major threat to defending champion Karl Hodge from the Army.
The others are former champion Mark Thistleton from Hayling and Dummer's bright new startlet David Lovegrove.
It's a sign of the growth of junior golf in the county that the event is over-subscribed. Hampshire secretary Keith Maplesden said: "Once again the championships have proved to be one of the most popular events on the Hampshire calendar. Several players were unlucky enough to be allocated out and late entries had no chance of being included."
