EMMA WEEKS overshadowed Curtis Cup hopeful Kerry Smith in the qualifying stages for the Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands Women's Golf Championship in La Moye.
Hockley-based Emma fired rounds of 73 and 72 - five under par - to lead the 36-hole qualifying competition by five shots.
Weeks, who was third in the English Strokeplay Championship last August, booked a first-round slot against Meon Valley teenager Tracey Boyes as the championship went into its matchplay phase yesterday.
Great Britain international Smith from Waterlooville, who has yet to win the county title, qualified second with rounds of 76 and 74. She is the strongest player in the field with a handicap of plus two compared to Weeks, who plays off scratch.
Joint third best qualifiers with a score of 158 were South Winchester duo Chris Quinn, who is a former champion, and Fiona Khan, who was runner-up to Kirsty Taylor three years ago.
First round draw: Emma Weeks v Tracey Boyes, Corrine Ramskill v Veronica Bougard, Jenney Deeley v Elaine Pushman, Glroia Paradiso v Fiona Khan, Chris Quinn v Di Hudson, Sue Gardiner v Chris Stirling, Helen Wheeler v Judy Lewis, Jackie Keay v Kerry Smith.
