TEAM Solent's Paul Thomas didn't defend his senior men's pole vault title. Having fought back from fracturing his right thumb in January 2001, the 21-year-old Bitterne Park man broke his left wrist last November and is out for a year.

New Forest Juni-ors have a similar injury in the camp. Having taken bronze in the under-13 girls' high jump, young Charlotte Walsh came a cropper in the 70m hurdles, ending up in hospital with a broken wrist.

There were no such problems for NFJ clubmate Hollie McManus. Although gold eluded her in the under-17s, she made four trips to the podium to collect high jump and 100m silver and long jump and 200m bronze.

After a successful season of cross-country, Southampton City youngster Scott Gallant (pictured right) proved equally formi-dable on the track with an under-13 boys' 1500/3000m double.

His achievements were matched at under-17 level by clubmate Andrew Bennett, who struck gold in both the shot and discus.
