Bournemouth 0, Andover 2

PLAYING their 30th cup tie of the season, Andover won their second cup final in three days and third trophy of the season when overcoming spirited JWL rivals Borunemouth in the final of the Hants FA's Russell-Cotes Cup at Victoria Park last Wednesday evening.

Although Bournemouth were fresh with them not having player for over a fortnight, the Lions were buoyant after completing a JWL league and cup double, and never looked like losing. It was the ninth time the Lions have carried off the Hants FA's benevolent trophy but was their first victory since 1962.

Playing his last game before retirement, Paul Odey had the satisfaction of scoring both goals and he will long be remembers for his unique contribution to the local game.

The first half finished goal-less but the second half was only two minutes old when Shaun Dyke squared a short corner to Matt Bicknell and his resulting cross was perfect for Odey to firmly plant into the net.

The Lions were firmly in control and it was no surprise when their second goal came with 20 minutes left. Again Bicknell was the provider and this time the cross was long and low, and Odey's trusted right boot did the rest.

It was appropriate that Bicknell should be involved in the final goals of the season with him being the only player to feature in all of the Lions 74 games played this season.

A firmer header from Andy Forbes struck an upright and a fine run from the half way line should have given Odey his hat-trick. Lloyd Webber's hard work deserved a goal and in the closing moments an excellent strike by Forbes drifted just wide of an upright.

Andover (4-4-2): Drake; Kennedy, Crossley,Barker, Bicknell; Asker, Webber, Walsh, Dyke; Forbes, Odey. Subs: Whale (for Barker 25 mins), Damen (for Whale 62 mins), Johnson (not used).
