JAMES Taylor came within a whisker of scoring on his full England non-League debut at Boston.
The Havant & Waterlooville marksman (pictured) was paired up front with Dagenham & Redbridge's Junior McDougald as England opened their Four Nations campaign with a 1-1 draw against Wales.
With the scoreline still goalless, Taylor's big moment came five minutes before half-time when he met Mark Gower's free-kick with a powerful downward header, but was denied by a great save from Welsh keeper Tony Roberts.
"I thought it was in for a moment," said the Sholing-based marksman, who the only non-Conference player in the England squad.
"The game was a fair bit quicker than I'm used to and the Welsh are a very physical side, but I really enjoyed it."
With England boss John Owens likely to ring the changes, Taylor is not hopeful of starting against the Republic of Ireland at Boston tonight (7.30), but he could get another chance against Scotland at Kettering on Saturday (2pm).
Lymington & New Milton have been docked six points by the Jewson Wessex League for bringing back striker Leigh Phillips a week early from suspension.
The JWL committee agreed to deduct the points Linnets had won in the two games Phillips erroneously played in during March.
It means the New Forest club have dropped to sixth spot in the final JWL table below neighbours Brockenhurst, who have achieved their highest ever finish of fifth.
Linnets were also fined £125 by the league and severely warned as to their future conduct.
