St Cross Drama Group, Twyford Parish Hall
A 30th anniversary is something to celebrate and St Cross is doing so in outrageous music hall style.
Song, melodrama, jokes and a vocal audience make this an enjoyable evening. The Ubiquitous & Indefatigable Alan Taylor takes seven parts, including two as a stand-up comedian.
No stranger to the boards, Mr Taylor has performed in every show in 30 years, except one, when he broke a leg.
In comparison, John Stebbings is in his second year. His jazzy keyboard-playing and growly Louis Armstrong voice are two of the highlights. He leads a superb instrumental ensemble which has nothing amateur about it.
While some numbers are a little uneven, they remain entertaining. The talents of Glenda Hayles and John Hopgood stand out in a strong yet wistful selection from Fiddler on the Roof.
Costumed waitresses and a ploughman's supper add to the lively variety atmosphere. The last "Good-byee" is on May 11
