SOUTHAMPTON'S new roll-on/roll-off shipping service connecting the port with northern Spain has begun operation.
Employed on the route between Southampton and Santander is the Norwegian-flagged, 10,171-tonne Cet-am Victoriae with a service speed of more than 16 knots. The ship's ramp capacity is up to 45 tons and the height of the main deck is more than 21 feet and reefer plugs are also available. Additionally, there is a separate covered deck for cars and pick-ups.
Southampton's Wainwright Bros. has been appointed as booking, sales and port agents for the new link.
Catering for unaccompanied trailers, the vessel will accept some trucks and drivers as the ship has a limited number of cabins.
The service will depart from Santander every Friday afternoon, arriving at Southampton on Sunday.
