Me and My Girl, Eastleigh Operatic and Musical Society - The Point, Eastleigh
FIRST performed in 1937, this musical comedy tells the story of a cockney, Bill Snibson, who is the missing heir to the Hareford estate, Hampshire.
It tells of his arrival with his girlfriend, Sally, at the country seat, and of the ups and downs of being groomed by the Duchese of Dene to inherit, and to produce an heir.
From the opening - which showed the infectious enthusiasm of the musical director and the musicians' response to him - right through the show, with confident scene changes, comedy rapport and vocal delivery of high quality, Eastleigh Operatic and Musical society delivered.
It seems almost unfair to single out individual performances, but both the lead characters - Bill Snibson (Simon Pontin) and Sally Smith (Kate Lynch) - were excellent. I recommend a visit if you are still able to buy a ticket.
What a good show!
