Haymarket Theatre, Basingstoke, Until June 1.
TO SOME people, summer means burnt sausages, hosepipe bans and the fear of malevolent insect life.
To others though, it's the smell of new-mown grass and the thump of leather on willow.
The supposedly relaxing and gentlemanly game of cricket forms the innocuous backdrop of Outside Edge, Richard Harris's riotous comedy that is being revived in Basingstoke to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
First produced in 1977, it follows the attempts of village green cricket captain Roger (Stuart Nurse) to assemble a team in the face of enormous adversity - including a team member's wife setting fire to a car and someone else's girlfriend getting stuck in the toilets. On top of that, it looks like it might be about to rain. AW
