ANDOVER police are investigating the cause of a fire at Rooksbury Mill on Sunday night.
Firefighters were called to the three storey listed building at 8.40pm to find the roof of the listed mill well alight.
The blaze was brought under control after an hour but a large amount of the roof had been destroyed.
Owners of the property, Test Valley Borough Council, have been carrying out structural assessments of the building to ensure no further damage is caused. The council hopes the fire has not delayed the impending sale of the mill, which was due to be transferred to its new owners in a fortnight.
Head of leisure Ian McKie said: "We're talking to the prospective purchaser about what is happening.
"The mill will have to be restored to its original condition.
"We have assessed the site, which is not open to the public, and we've taken every precaution to ensure it is safe."
