AROUND 150 people gathered in the sunshine to enjoy traditional May Day celebrations in Overton.
The day was organised by Overton Action Group to provide a celebration for families in a traditional manner.
Held at The Lynch, former residents Rose Smith, aged 83, Alec George, aged 89 and Dulcie Starke, aged 93 officially opened the fun day and enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment provided by local people. Young-sters in the village, under the guidance of Pat Dale, performed a series of maypole dances and received rapturous applause for their efforts.
The dances were even more impressive considering Pat had only been working with Overton Primary School on the routines for a few weeks.
The crowds also enjoyed a play entitled Cards With The King, which recounted the tales of King George IV's visit to Overton as Prince Regent many years ago.
Music was provided by Gill Corbett on the melodeon.
Organiser Ian Crombie said: "The day allowed people to have simple fun with their families.
"It was a pleasant look back at what was our past and a return to tradition.
"We just asked people to come along and enjoy themselves."
