AS one season ends another starts and it looks like being a bumper crop of teams entering the local HSA Youth League next season.

"It's looking really good," said league secretary Jon Holman. "We've asked the clubs what their plans are for next season the numbers are up significantly. Some are entering more teams, with one club who had only two teams in the league this season entering eight next season."

Holman added: "It's still early days yet and we shall be asking the clubs for their firm proposals before our AGM in June. Maybe because its World Cup year, and the fact that we hope to run a new under-8 mini soccer league as well as re-introducing our under 15 league - but its looking good!"

New clubs like Fordingbridge and Andover New Street have indicated their intention to join the Saturday league and the secretary confirms positive interest from Micheldever, Laverstock and Ford and Collingbourne Ducis.

Next season the plan is to run leagues from under-8, 9 and 10 mini soccer and then each year to under-15.

Anyone interested in entering teams in the HSA Youth League, which kicks off again in September, should call the league secretary on Andover 353780.

kkkkk

Castledown Colts clinched the runners-up spot in the Under-13 Division One of the HSA Youth League with a battling 3-2 home win against South Wonston.

Colts raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Luke Trigell and Ben Haugaard but the visitors pegged them back before the break through D Douglas and D Bedford. The game could have gone either way in a keenly fought second half but Colts snatched the points with a late winner through Kevin McWilliams.

Both sides now have just one game left to play and that's the final of the Under-13 League Cup on this Saturday's Final Days at Longmeadow, Whitchurch.
