Victory for Hoodlum,Big Boys Toys,Close Encounter and Kokomo
The first race of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club's Twilight series on Thursday 2 May saw a fickle northerly breeze of around eight knots which gave the race committee problems with 30 degree + wind shifts.
The Race Management Team set the Committee Boat off Netley on the eastern shore, with an initial good beat to windward but the wind soon managed to undo their well set course.
In Class 1- racing under club handicaps a close start was contested and after some tight racing Scarlet Oyster took line honours and second place, Shades of Blue 2 won third place 4 seconds behind, with Hoodlum taking 1st place with 1.05 min to spare on corrected time
Class 2 - racing under club handicap, line honours and 2nd place was taken by Whippa Snappa however the Hunter 707 Big Boys Toys (Andrew Percival) won on corrected time by 11 seconds,3rd place went to Small.
Class 3 - also under club handicap was won by Close Encounter taking line honours and with a comfortable margin of 3.51min over 2nd place Empathy and Urchin II taking 3rd place.
Multihulls - An excellent entry for this series of 6 boats with 4 on the start for the 1st race saw Kokomo in 1st place beating Shakatak by 1.05min in 2nd and Zoum in 3rd.
The RSYC Twilight Series concludes on Thursday 27 June.
