TOTALLY Tennis performance squad player Jonathon Dow won the first Robinsons Junior Challenge tournament of the year at Totally Tennis' indoor centre.
In the final he defeated team-mate Jack Brett.
Dow and Brett, both eight, reached the final after each enjoyed five straight match victories and each finished with semi-finals against Totally Tennis players.
Dow beat David Gridley 6-2 in his semi-final and Brett won his against Stuart Turner 6-4.
Dow will now go on to compete in the county finals with a chance to meet and play against Tim Henman at the Wimbledon All England Tennis Club in October as the prize if he goes through to the final stages of the competition.
The Robinsons Junior Challenge events are designed to offer players the opportunity to play matches on full-size courts against different opponents in a competitive environment.
Similar events are held throughout the country and the organisers predict that, by the end of all the events, about 10,000 boys and girls will have competed.
Gavin Fletcher, the LTA's director of events and tournaments, said: "Robinsons tennis is an exiting way to encourage junior competition among players of all abilities. There can be no greater incentive than to play at Wimbledon with Tim, who is such a fine ambassador for British tennis.
"We are delighted our partners at Robinsons are working with us to ensure that there is the widest possible competitive base for young tennis players in this country."
In Basingstoke alone, Robinsons Aces events are proving very popular, with the next two tournaments, scheduled at Totally Tennis in May and June, already full with reserve players on waiting lists.
