Saints wound up their FA Premier Reserve League campaign with an encouraging 1-1 draw at Leicester last night.

Coach Steve Wigley was delighted the display by a very young side consisting almost entirely of scholars as they recovered from another early set-back.

They went behind after just two minutes when they failed to defend a corner but hit back strongly in what turned into an end-to-end game.

For the second time in three days, trainee keeper Gareth Williams kept his side in it with some fine saves, including a one-on-one, while Scott McDonald missed two chances - one blazed over and the other saved.

Saints started the second half well and got on top and Luke Byles had a header cleared off the line before Mike Williamson turned the ball in from a corner on 58 minutes.

McDonald had a winner disallowed seven minutes from time for a tight offside after latching onto a good through-ball from Jay Lucas.

Williams made another good stop right on 90 minutes and in injury-time McDonald got on the end of a cross but his effort spun over the bar.

Wigley said: "It was a real good way to end the season.

"It is a shame the goal was disallowed as I felt we deserved to win it but I was really pleased with every one of them.

"It gives us something to build on for next season."
